Meet Senior Manager Jay Hynek, one of our newest team members, who helps businesses navigate the complex landscape of state income tax and more.

At TaxOps, we’re fortunate to have incredible people driving our mission of making sense of tax for businesses worldwide. One of our newest team members, Jay Hynek, exemplifies this mission by helping businesses navigate complex tax issues through state income tax and advisory solutions for corporate and flow-through entities. Jay also plays a role in managing and reviewing federal tax returns for state consolidated returns and combined reporting for both domestic and foreign entities.

Jay has a proven track record of successfully resolving audit inquiries and outstanding tax matters with state governments, effectively minimizing tax liabilities and reducing state income tax audit exposure for his clients. He also conducts state tax impact analysis and risk reduction activities associated with mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.

Jay began his career as a sales and use tax auditor before taking on a role at CH2MHill, now Jacobs, where he managed and reviewed state income tax and federal tax returns as well as examination details under audit. He also performed state tax calculations under ASC 740, including state blended rate, valuation allowances for state NOL’s and credits, and FIN 48 analysis. Before joining TaxOps, Jay also gained valuable experience in public accounting with Big Four firms.

Jay holds a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Metropolitan State University. He is passionate about mentoring and dedicates much of his free time to being a ski instructor at Arapahoe Basin and a tennis coach at Mullen High School.
